The Protagonist

The given Protagonist - Lucy May Schofield, a lady of many professions, many talents but an ungiven title. My blog will be based on gathering information (research) in order to create a space for her work and maybe even Lucy herself. Hopefully through looking at my online diary of daily findings you will be able to understand why i perceive her work the way i do, without describing her job role.

HAYLEYS BIBLIOTHERAPY

This is my video for my designed space. It is more of a narrative of feelings and an abstract way of showing what it would be like before entering(stressed, dark chaotic)and then the journey from that to being inside my space, of using books as therapy and after reading or leaving the space(refreshed, calm and at ease, almost dream like). This is all done without giving away what my final design would be.

Bitter Sweet Symphony by The Verve

I thought this was an interesting song after I watched Cruel Intentions. I like the words and the fact it starts quite dark then lifts into light, almost like a journey from one to another.

JUNO - "All I Want Is You" Video

I like the way this video has been shot and edited with special effects. This is what gave me the idea for my movie.

storyboard for my small movie and Ellie Goulding 'Your Song'

Here are some of the pictures from my sketchbook, a storyboard to show my ideas for my short film.

A video of interest is Ellie Gouldings- this is your song, partly because I just like the song and also because you can see travel, being outdoors and happiness filmed in a really interesting way. I like it that much I might even put it into my little movie.

Storage and Reflection

After finding the picture of the sofa below I stuck into my sketchbook and after going back to it I kept thinking about Alice in wonderland and the dream world she falls into in the film. I found more pictures that I thought could relate to my space. Reading books is relaxing and lets your imagination run wild-like the film.

This picture reminds me of Alice in Wonderland with its cartoon effect. Lucy likes a space for tea, and I thought this was quite interesting.

A place for thought or maybe memories. This looks quite sinister as it is quite a dark picture, but i think can be read in many different ways.

The Permanent space

I was looking at both temporary and permanent spaces at the same time and came across the space in which Im not allowed to say this word according to the tutor but "pods". I was interested in the fact that this could be an exhibition space for Lucy's collections or maybe even a workshop space or teaching area. The pods could be kept on their own or could be linked together to create multiple rooms. Through thinking about this I came up with the idea of the space I am most interested in - the transient space, in how these pods could move around with Lucy, a place for her to live aswell as work.

A temporary space

Through research I found these different space. I was really intrigued by the fact that they are made out of natural materials such as the outside space-like a wooden tepee, or the cell made from books, which I suppose in itself is bibliotherapy.

How would Lucy fit into a small transient space

I wanted to look at ways in which a space could be used in more than one way, although these pictures are quite obvious, I found them interesting. each space is almost a hybrid in how it can become something different from what its original use was. Lucy will be working and living in the same compact space so it is important that all elements from both areas combine and work together to make this space practical yet comfortable.

The Transient space

With lucy travelling across country I thought about a space that could travel with her from buses to trailers even bicycles. This space would be a place where lucy could store her books/collections and also live comfortably.

Forms of storage

I also wanted to look into forms of storage as Lucy has a lot of books and objects that travel around the country with her for her bibliotherapy work. Her permanent work space would also require alot of storage such as her own personal space, her workshops and thinking/tea time.
